Aprovecho Open House Dean Still

About 20 people came down to Cottage Grove, Oregon after ETHOS for the annual Stove Open House where the two emission hoods are available to test and improve performance.

Adrian Padt and Joe James did a lotof testing. Christa Roth taught a STOVES 101 class to 15 interns taking a permaculture class. Cecil Cook was a joy to be around. Jon and Flip Anderson cooked and baked for the entire three days and even tested their Rocket earthen oven under the hood. Kirk Harris helped Dean Still to make a cleaner burning natural draft TLUD that burned found fuel. Paul Anderson, Jiddu Broersma, and the group thought a lot about how to make the most successful clean burning, natural draft TLUDs that cook like charcoal and LPG stoves without tending.

We had a great time and feasted on delicious homemade pizza cooked in Mike Hatfield’s clay-fired pizza oven. The Open House is always a high point in the Aprovecho year of events but 2015 was especially warm and intellectually satisfying (and a gustatory treat).
