VIDEO: The Wonderful VITA stove

When we tested the VITA stove in Nepal the cooks did a great job and got over 50% thermal efficiency by using a small hot fire. The 6mm channel gap between the pot and the stove body forced the cold molecules away from the pot replacing them with a continuous stream of hot molecules. For this reason, the 5 liters of water in the pot boiled quickly using less than 300 grams of fuel.

Dr. Sam Baldwin revolutionized the design of stoves with the introduction of the channel gap. By cleaning up combustion first and then forcing the hot gases to flow close to the pot, it’s straightforward to make a truly improved stove. Using a lot less fuel to boil and simmer reduces emissions even when using the open fire.
